My work incorporates personal, mythological, and historical semiotics, and juxtaposes the earthly with the sublime to question problematic ideas of history, authority, and gender. How do we find and tell the truth when it is obscured by time and inaccuracy? Symbols seem a natural way to do so, as they are rich with implied meaning, but also beyond reality and approach the truth somewhat sideways. This feels more honest as the impression of the symbol is real and legible, even if the full meaning is somewhat opaque due to lack of mutual context, culture, or experience. There are elements of truth and transparency that speak to human capability. Through anachronistic visual storytelling I aim to displace us from our modern worldview, and better illuminate truth and reality, challenging our belief in these systems.
