These Stormy Seas

A chalice emerges from an ancient crown, blackened with age. In it a medieval cog (ship) floats in a sea of illustrated marginalia flourishes and acanthus leaves in blue, red, green, and yellow that froth and curl like angry waves. The vessel contains a small army of soldiers listening to their captain who speaks to them from the ship’s bow. The sail displays a lion with red spots and at the top of the mast a red flag flutters in front of a moon set with twining medieval designs. In the air around the ship 60 nuns in their habits fall to their doom.
